Terms of use
Short, and meant to be read. Using Lumen means agreeing to what is on this page.
Last updated 2026-08-15
1. Who you are agreeing with
Lumen is operated by Lumen (sole proprietorship), Mariahilfer Straße 62/37, 1070 Vienna, Austria. Full details are on the imprint page. Questions about these terms go to info@lumenprayer.app.
2. What Lumen is
Lumen is an iPhone app for prayer, Bible reading and daily spiritual routines. It is a devotional tool. It is not a substitute for your parish, a spiritual director, a counsellor, a doctor or a crisis service. If you are in danger or in crisis, contact the emergency services or a crisis line in your country.
3. Your account
You need an account so your journal and routines survive a lost phone. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, use an address you actually control, and tell us if you think someone else has got in. You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age in your country if that is higher.
4. What it costs
Lumen starts with a seven-day free trial. After it, continued use of the paid features needs a subscription, billed through Apple under Apple’s terms and cancellable in your App Store settings. The price and the billing period are shown in the app before you are asked for anything. The Bible reader, your highlights and notes, and the verse of the day remain usable without a subscription.
5. What you write stays yours
Your prayers, notes, reflections and routines belong to you. We claim no ownership and no licence to publish them. We store them so we can show them back to you, and nothing more. See the privacy policy for the detail.
6. What belongs to us, and what belongs to nobody
The app, the site, the name Lumen and the original artwork are ours; please do not copy or redistribute them. The Bible translations bundled with the app are public-domain editions, and the traditional prayer texts are in the public domain as well, so those you may use freely, from any source. The full list is on the licences page.
7. Fair use
Do not use Lumen to break the law, and do not attack the service. Concretely: no
- attempts to access another person’s account or data;
- automated scraping, load testing or reverse engineering of the service;
- uploading malware, or using the app to harass anyone.
Accounts that do these things can be suspended. If we ever have to do that, we will tell you why.
8. Availability
Lumen is offered as it is. We work to keep it running and correct, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption or free of every fault, and features may change as the app develops. The Bible text and guided prayers work offline, which is deliberate: a server problem should not stand between you and Scripture.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of Lumen. Nothing here limits liability for intent, gross negligence, or injury to life, body or health, and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
10. Ending it
You can stop using Lumen at any time and ask for your account to be deleted; write to info@lumenprayer.app. We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms.
11. Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes and material changes are announced in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Lumen after that means the new version applies.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of Austria. Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence continue to apply.
