Morning
The verse of the day
One verse over a painting, new every day. Ninety of them rotate through the year. It sits on your Lock Screen too, so you often read it before you open anything.
Catholic Bible & prayer app for iPhone
Read, highlight and share any verse from six translations, all offline. Then put your own ten minutes together: today’s chapter, the prayers you actually pray, five quiet minutes. Lumen runs it with you, one step at a time.

A day with Lumen
You can do all three in about ten minutes, or just the one you have time for. Nothing is locked behind finishing the day.

Morning
One verse over a painting, new every day. Ninety of them rotate through the year. It sits on your Lock Screen too, so you often read it before you open anything.

Midday
Pick one of 35 prayers and Lumen walks you through it a step at a time. A decade of the Rosary takes about three minutes.

Evening
Your reading plan hands you a passage of a few minutes. Highlight what you want to keep, write a note beside it, and the day is done.
Daily verse
Ninety verses rotate through the year, each on its own painting. Tap share and Lumen turns the verse into a picture and hands it to Messages, WhatsApp or Instagram. Below is exactly what arrives.

Lumen
Let all that you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14

Lumen
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Verse of the Day, Lumen Focus and Lumen Rhythm, on both the Lock Screen and the Home Screen.
Each of the fourteen places you reach becomes a card with the painting and the day count.
Nothing about your account, your streak or your journal travels with it.
Guided prayer
All four sets of mysteries are in the app, Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious, with every decade laid out as a step you tap through. The other 31 prayers include the Angelus, the Confiteor and the Act of Contrition, the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, the Salve Regina, the Memorare, the Anima Christi, the Magnificat, the Te Deum, St Francis’ prayer for peace, the prayer to St Michael, Compline, morning and night prayers, and grace before and after a meal.
My Prayers is your own list. Write down what you are asking for, tag it as intercession, thanksgiving or lament, and pin the one that matters most. When it is answered, mark it and write down how, so in a year you can still read what happened.

Bible
The complete text of all six sits inside the app, so searching every verse for a word takes under a second on a plane or in a basement. Highlight a line, write a note next to it, set the type larger, or send the verse to someone.
All six are public-domain editions, so they can be bundled rather than rented. The Douay-Rheims includes the deuterocanonical books. Copyrighted translations are left out on purpose.
Reading plans
Pick one and it becomes today’s reading on the home screen. Finish the day and the plan moves on. Miss one and it waits for you.

Routines
A routine is a list of steps you choose: today’s passage from your reading plan, two guided prayers, five minutes of silence on a timer, one written reflection. Group them into morning, afternoon, evening or whenever, and Lumen takes you through one step per screen until they are finished.
One screen at a time, with a progress bar and an end. Nothing rolls over to tomorrow.
Your own name, icon and colour. Fasting on Wednesdays, silence every evening, Scripture each morning.
Five quiet minutes as a step in the routine, counted down for you.
Pick the time and set quiet hours. Nothing is ever scheduled inside them.

Streak Journey
Finish your routine and the streak counts the day. Each stop on the route is a place where Scripture marks a turning point: Eden on day 3, Ararat on day 7, Jerusalem on day 30, Shiloh after a year. The ones you have reached are in colour, the rest are grey until you get there.
3Begin with trust
7A faithful restart
14Stay close to Christ
21Heaven touches earth
30Walk with purpose
45Cross into the promise
60Recognise him daily
75Rain after the drought
90A steady life of faith
120Meet him in the silence
150Rooted and unshaken
180See with new eyes
270Dew on the heights
365A year of faithfulness
You earn a grace day roughly every week and can hold up to three. Miss a day and one gets spent instead of your streak resetting. Run out and the count starts again, but every postcard you have already collected stays yours.
The journey moves when you finish the day’s goal, which is the steps in your own routine, not when you open the app. Reach a stop and the painting turns from grey to colour, and the postcard becomes one you can send to someone.
Privacy
People write things in a prayer journal they would not write anywhere else. Several obvious growth features are missing from Lumen for that reason.
Your prayers, verse notes and reflections are stored against your account. They are not analysed, not used to train anything, and not visible to another person.
There is no ad SDK in the app and no advertising identifier. Lumen talks to three outside services: the database that stores your account, Apple for notifications, and the billing service that runs subscriptions. That is the whole list.
Every table holding your data has row-level security switched on, so a row is only readable by the account that wrote it.
All six translations ship inside the app. What you read, search for and highlight never reaches a server, so nobody could log it.
Every category of data, why it exists and how to have it deleted is listed in the privacy policy.
You start with seven days free. After that Lumen is a subscription, and the price is shown in the app before you are asked for anything. The Bible reader, your highlights and notes, and the verse of the day stay free whether you subscribe or not, because charging people for access to Scripture is not something we want to do.
Yes. The prayer catalogue is Catholic: the Rosary with all four sets of mysteries, the Angelus, the Confiteor and Act of Contrition, the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds, the Salve Regina, the Memorare, the Anima Christi, the Te Deum, Compline. The Douay-Rheims is bundled with the deuterocanonical books. If you come from another tradition you are welcome, and the Bible, the journal, the reading plans and the routines carry no denominational load, but the prayers are Catholic ones.
The parts that matter, yes. All six Bible translations are bundled inside the app rather than streamed, so reading, full-text search and the reading plans work on a plane, in a church basement or with data switched off. The same is true of all 35 guided prayers. Your notes, highlights and journal sync when you are back online.
English, German and Spanish, fully. Interface, prayers and reminders. The prayer texts are not machine-translated: each language uses its own traditional wording, because the English "Our Father" is its own canonical text rather than a translation of the German Vaterunser.
One reminder at the time you choose, and a quiet-hours window it will never schedule inside. No badges begging for attention, no streak-panic notifications you did not ask for, no messages from other people. You can turn all of it off and keep every day you have practised.
No. There is no feed, no follower count and no public leaderboard. A shared-group feature exists in the codebase and is switched off. If it is ever turned on it will be opt-in and it will be announced.
You keep up to three grace days, earning roughly one a week, and a missed day spends one instead of resetting your streak. Run out and the count starts again, but the postcards you have already collected stay collected.
Lumen is in the last stretch before submission. Leave your address above and you get exactly one email on the day it is live. No newsletter, no drip sequence.
Not yet. Lumen is a native SwiftUI app for iPhone, including Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets. An Android version is not in development, and we would rather say that than imply a date.
